UK - Youth Mobility Visa
The UK Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa (previously known as the UK Working Holiday visa) gives young people the opportunity to experience life in the United Kingdom, allowing them to live and work there for up to two years.
Are you interested in checking out all that the UK has to offer? Do you want to spend summer solstice with the pagans at Stonehenge, or go on the hunt for Nessie in the Scottish Lochs? Well, first thing’s first:
The UK doesn’t just let anyone in (although their standards aren’t particularly high!). In order to qualify for the UK Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa, you must:
- Be aged between 18 and 30 years old;
- Hold a passport from an eligible, partnered country (Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea or Taiwan);
- Have access to the equivalent of £1890GBP (i.e. in your bank account);
- Have no dependants (children or other) under the age of 18;
- Have not previously taken part in the Youth Mobility Scheme;
- Have not had any criminal convictions in the last 12 months.
Please note: If you have a criminal conviction that is from more than 12 months ago, you may or may not be eligible depending on the circumstances. If this is the case, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

*Fees correct as of 1st September 2017 & subject to change without notice. The visa price above is independent of our Restless World Visa Service fee, and does not include the Immigration Health Surcharge, applicable fees, or Biometric Appointment fees payable at a processing centre in Australia. These are all British High Commission fees that you pay to obtain your UK visa.
As part of the application process, Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa candidates are required to participate in a mandatory biometric appointment with British authorities, or their appointed representatives. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt a bit!
Please note that at some locations you’ll be required to pay an additional surcharge for your biometric appointment. For Canadian applicants, an additional surcharge of US$100 is applicable to any biometric appointment. We will discuss these fees with you in advance of your appointment, based on your appointment location in your home country.
Effective 6th April 2016
All Australian, New Zealand and Canadian citizens will be provided with full access to the British National Health Service (NHS) for the entire term of their visa. This will grant you full rights to the health services that everyday UK citizens get, including visits to the doctor and the hospital, and access to prescription medications at the same prices.
A health service surcharge of £300 is payable at the time of purchasing the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa. This fee will cover you for the entirety of your visa, whenever you may choose to use it (although it must be used within 5 years of the activation date).
When you arrive in the UK and receive your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card, just flash the card at appropriate NHS locations to gain access to one of the best healthcare systems in the world.
When you receive your application forms they may look extremely simple, but be warned, one slip-up on the UK Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa application can result in a swiftly rejected bid. True to the English spirit, the British High Commission are a particularly cautious bunch, and are remarkably unforgiving of any errors that may have been made on your application. If they sense that something is amiss, they may well turn you down with neither a second thought nor a refund. That’d be one costly typo!
The harsh nature of the visa application process is exactly why Restless World’s resident boffins spend their time investigating all of the ins and outs of the application procedure. With Restless World, you’ll gain access to this brains trust, giving yourself the very best chance of realising your UK dream!
