5 Fears that stop you from moving to the UK on your UK Work Visa
If you’ve been thinking about taking the leap, obtaining your UK Work Visa and moving over to the UK – even if just for a short term stay – you might be feeling a little bit afraid, and that’s OK! It’s totally normal, in fact. Change is hard. Change is scary. BUT, that doesn’t mean change isn’t necessary. Here is a run down of the 5 most common fears about moving overseas, and how you can get past each and every one. Before you know it, you’ll be stepping off a plan in England, ready to start on the adventure of a lifetime!
1) FEAR OF CHANGE…
Change is scary. Change is hard. It’s the same for all of us, so don’t feel too worried about this. You will definitely experience change if you move to the UK, but it will all be worth it… we promise! It’s like Michael Caine (as Robert Spritzel) said in ‘The Weather Man’: “Do you know that the harder thing to do and the right thing to do are usually the same thing? Nothing that has meaning is easy.”
2) FEAR OF MISSING OUT (ON THINGS BACK HOME)…
This is a common one! Inevitably, you’re going to miss home once in a while. You’re going to miss your friends. You’re going to worry that you’ll miss important events and milestones back home, and this might worry you so much that you decide not to go at all. Don’t let this stop you. Full disclosure: you will indeed miss some stuff back home. But we can guarantee that each and every friends and family member is going to be thinking about all the experiences you’ll be having, and THEY are going to feel like they are missing out too! We can’t have everything we want in life. Sometimes we have to trade. We miss out on some things at home – but what we gain in new experiences will always outweigh the things we miss! And don’t forget – home will always, always be there waiting for you. It doesn’t change all that much…
3) FEAR OF FAILURE…
Moving to the UK is a big deal! And sometimes, we encounter would-be travellers who are afraid that they won’t adjust well in the UK; that they won’t be successful at their pub job; or that they just simply won’t like it over there. And all those things might happen. But then again, they might not. Don’t let fear of failure hold you back! The only real failure in life is failing to try. So what are you waiting for? Pack those bags, apply for that visa, book that flight, and get over to the UK already! What’s the worst that could happen?
4) FEAR OF FLYING…
Yep. Some of you might just hate the idea of getting on the plane. We don’t blame you, either – it’s not for everyone. With that said, here are 5 things that are considered to be more dangerous that flying:
- Walking
- Playing computer games
- Hippos
- Food Allergies
- Dance Parties
That fear of flying doesn’t seem so legit anymore, does it?
5) FEAR OF FUN!
Cherophobia is a real thing. Can you believe it? A fear of having fun, despite the reassurance and understanding that it is not dangerous. And to be completely honest, if you’re afraid of having fun – literally, the best experience of your life – then maybe moving to the UK on a working holiday isn’t for you after all. You’ll have hard days for sure. But you’ll make so many new friends with whom you’ll share endless new experiences. You’ll travel within the UK (think Stonehenge, the cobbled streets of London, haunted castles, and more) – and you’ll travel outside the UK too (weekend in Paris, anyone?)! You’ll learn a lot. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll drink. You’ll party. And before you know it, you’ll be on the plane back home with a lifetime of stories jam packed into just a few short months of your life. And all those fears you had in your head before you left – you’ll think about them, and you’ll be happy as f-ck that you didn’t let them get in your way.
