UK Businesses on the Hunt for Flexible and ‘Hard-Working’ Australians to Beat Recession
Recent growing demand for Australian workers by British recruiters could herald an end to the UK’s ongoing recession.
Announcements of third-quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) have been made throughout the world over the past two weeks, with Australia, the major European economies & the US having returned to positive ground.
The UK economy continued to shrink though. A 0.4 per cent drop in GDP was recorded between June - September, the sixth consecutive period of negative growth - with a 5.9 per cent drop over the past year.
While Australia, Japan, Germany and France are now on the tentative road to recovery, Britian still languishes in its worst economic slump since World War II.
However, it is expected that the UK economy will finally trough over the coming months and it’s the Australians, who have been experiencing the worst expat jobs pinch in memory, who will be amongst the first to feel the upswing here.
UK recruiters have shared with the Australian Times their latest economic research, with conclusions that current conditions are ideal for the Australian expats. The latest employment figures from recruitment agent and research think tank, Australasian Talent Company (ATC), show more Australians are gaining employment in the UK than in previous months.
Most work now available is on a temporary basis and demands a heavier workload for a reduced salary, which is “ideal” for Australians.
The typical Australian expat comes to the UK seeking a break in their career rather than hoping to make one; prepared to perform less-demanding roles than they normally would at home and happy earning only enough money to travel and survive. Alongside trademark hard-working attitudes, this mindset places Australian candidates in a “unique” position in the recruitment rat-race.
