Do I need a Schengen Visa to travel around Europe?

In recent weeks many Restless customers have been asking us this question.
The answer is simple; if you are an Australian or a New Zealander you do NOT need to apply for the Schengen Visa.

Generally, Australian and New Zealand tourists planning to spend less than a total of 90 days within a 180 day period in the ‘Schengen area’ do not require visas for countries which are parties to the Schengen Convention. You cannot work during that time, unless you have a valid working holiday visa for the country you are in, and if you spend more than 90 days in any one country you risk being fined.

If you are not sure if the European country you plan to visit is in the Schengen zone, or to find out if you do need to apply for a visa for the country you plan to visit, check with the country’s High Commission, Embassy or Consulate –a simple Google search should bring up the information you need.

Happy travelling Restless people!

Restless photo competition winner announced

Over the last 4 weeks we’ve been inviting you to upload your favourite travel photo to our Facebook page for the chance to win $250 and there were dozens of fantastic entries.

But there could only be one winner and congratulations go to Bronte Wilson whose superb snap of her and her pals on the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Northern Ireland proved the most popular.

The ultimate winner would be the entry with the most ‘Likes’, and Bronte’s effort beat second-placed Janine Valenzuela’s brilliant photo of a sunset  at the Hilton Hotel in Hawaii by just 2 votes!

Jackson Matthews finished third with his excellent snowy scene at a ski resort in Zugspitze, Germany.

There were dozens more great shots from all over the world, all of which can be seen on our Facebook page here, facebook.com/restless so make sure you ‘Like’ us and check out all the entries.

Along with the $250 jackpot, Bronte’s prize-winning picture will also feature on our homepage, restlessworld.com.au for all the world to see.

Again thankyou to everyone who submitted their travel photos and well done to Bronte, Janine and Jackson for getting the most likes!

We’ll be running our next Photo competition starting early May, keep an eye on our Facebook page for further updates.

Cheers

Woman travellers on the rise

Findings from a recent study found that woman travellers are opting for adventure holidays and cultural experiences over spa treatments and resort holidays.

The study also reveals woman are more likely to travel on their own today than they have ever before, News.com reported.

Additionally the amount of woman participating in food and wine experiences on their last holiday has increased almost four percent to 27.5 percent in the last ten years.

Director of travel research at marketing company TNS Jo Farquhar said since more and more woman are choosing to start a family later they have more time to travel.

Ms Farquhar said woman were also the major decision makers when it came to planning holidays.
“Work life balance is very important to women and holidays are a priority for them,” Ms Farquhar said.

“Life isn’t just about work and they want to make time to take holidays, more so than men.

“Women are more independent than they have ever been.”

Ms Farquhar added that there had been an increase in tour companies focusing in women’s travel during the last few years.

“They don’t want things necessarily to be just for women but they want them to ‘get’ women,” she said.
