Architecture and Surveying
The major employers of this sector are construction companies, local authorities (and other public service organisations) and in private practice. Civil and Structural Engineering
Employers in this sector include:
- International construction groups / multidisciplinary consultancies including Atkins, ARUP and Faber Maunsell/AECOM
- UK national/regional contractors (e.g. Edmund Nuttall Ltd, May Gurney and Taylor Woodrow)
- Specialist consultancies, e.g. Fugro Ltd (coastal and environmental) and Jenkins & Potter (rail and structural);

Engineering Construction
Combining engineering, construction and science disciplines, businesses in this sector will recruit graduates into chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, and project buying and project control engineering roles.
Employers are usually multidisciplinary businesses, e.g. Bechtel and WSP Group plc, working on contracts with international clients from sectors including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and oil and gas.
Surveying
Surveyors, other than quantity surveyors working for construction companies, are employed by local authorities (and other public service organisations) and in private practice.
