We’re only a week into January and already I’ve been a little naughty. Not surprising for a girl who’s only rule is to have no rules but I did think I’d make it to February and my UK adventure before getting too out of hand.
I could use the excuse that it’s the silly season so I can’t be blamed for this lapse in sensible
behaviour but perhaps I should own up and say I’m behaving true to form, unable to pass up a great opportunity and leave it at that.
What did I do?
In the middle of organising my relocation to the UK I’ve accepted an invitation to go to Montreal
with my French family. Yes, this little Aussie has been “adopted” by a wonderful French family after
hosting their daughter during her exchange year to Australia.
My French family really do live in France but our shared baby now lives in Montreal where she
attends Uni – lucky her, we’re all going to visit at once!
So where’s the naughty bit? I know I should arrive in the UK and work a few months to save some
pounds before I start travelling however my trip to Montreal is scheduled for two days after I arrive.
Oh well, my relocation is all about the opportunity to travel frequently and cheaply so I’m actually
living up to my plan rather well and I haven’t even left Australia yet. You see, you can justify anything
if you try.
Now that I’ve changed my plan before it’s begun I worried I may have thrown a spanner in the
workings with Restless but no, they too are ready for anything and have come up with their own
modified plan to help my relocation remain smooth.
I marvel at the patience of my Restless contact and think she must wonder if she’ll ever pin me down
to a final plan however, she remains cheery and helpful and has reworked my paperwork to ensure
I’ll avoid unnecessary rental costs but will finally arrive in the UK with accommodation and a job
awaiting.
What next? I must snap out of holiday mode and complete the paperwork she sent me so that my
UK sim card, bank account and NI number are also dealt with. Oh, and I need to get my French back
up to speed before arriving in Montreal! Au revoir.
